If the articles and thoughts on this blog have resonated with you and challenged you to dive deeper into your values or your spiritual walk, I have a special invitation for you:
I am looking for several individuals to work with during the summer months (May, June, July, August) in a coaching relationship.
- Are you serious about moving forward in a particular area of your life?
- Do you have some goal that you want to achieve, and just need some accountability and encouragement to go for it?
- Would you like to understand how your beliefs, attitudes, and values play a part of your everyday life?
- Are you interested in incorporating daily spiritual disciplines into your life?
If any of these describe you, I’m going to ask you to do two things:
1. Check out the page on Coaching so that you understand what coaching is and what coaching is not.
2. Shoot me an email at kari.lee at yahoo.com.
By doing these two things, you are not committing yourself to anything. You’re simply getting more information.
We’ll talk. We’ll figure out if coaching is right for you. We’ll figure out if I’m the right coach for you. If not, I can point you in a different direction or give you the contact information for some other life coaches. But if so, we’ll start working together in an area that you want to see growth in.
Jesus came to give life in all its fullness. It’s time that we take Him at His word and allow Him to lead us to a life beyond our imaginations… Will you join me?

So you’ve brainstormed your values, you’ve narrowed them down, and you’ve verified them. What else could you possibly do? Let me assure you that if you’ve made it this far, you’re doing good! I just want to challenge you to go a little bit farther by personalizing them. This takes place in two steps:
1. Define your values.
Don’t use a dictionary. Don’t look to see how others define them. What do they mean to YOU? If love is a value, how do you define it? Try to come up with a short phrase or sentence that resonates with you.
I’m afraid of giving too many examples on this one because I want it to be personal… but here’s a couple anyway:
Integrity = genuine behavior aligned with His truth
Excellence = creatively pursuing the highest potential
2. Identify the belief behind each value.
Here’s what I mean by that: we value something because we hold a certain belief. For example, one of my values is Respect, because I believe that everyone, regardless of whether they are a Christ-follower or not, was made in God’s image; if I disrespect another person, I disrespect God and His creation. I also value Generosity, because I believe that I am a steward of what God has given me, and I am to use everything for His glory.
Most of these beliefs might also have Scripture refences to back them up. I use 1 Chronicles 29.14 as support for my value of Generosity: “All that we have comes from God and we give it out of his hand.”
This step might take a little bit to finish, but I am convinced that every value has at least one belief connected to it.
Again, why is it important to identify your values? Because you can then begin to make intentional choices about how you want to live your life. You are more focused. You are clear about where you are going. And if you behave against your values, you will only lose energy and struggle to make it through the day.
In a couple of days, I’ll wrap all of this up by clarifying how you can put this into action…
